Fertility enhancing surgery

Surgical procedures used to correct reproductive problems (like fibroids, endometriosis, or blocked tubes) to improve chances of natural conception.

Fertility Enhancing Surgery

Fertility enhancing surgery refers to surgical procedures used to correct conditions that affect a woman’s ability to conceive naturally. Advances in medical science allow many infertility-related problems to be treated through minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Certain conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), blocked fallopian tubes, uterine fibroids, dermoid cysts, and pelvic adhesions can interfere with the normal functioning of the female reproductive system. These problems may prevent fertilization, implantation, or normal pregnancy.

Fertility enhancing surgeries aim to treat these conditions and improve the chances of natural conception.

What are Fertility Enhancing Surgeries?

Fertility enhancing surgeries are procedures performed to restore or improve reproductive function in women affected by infertility-related conditions.

These surgeries help by:

  • Removing abnormal growths such as fibroids or cysts

  • Correcting structural problems in reproductive organs

  • Clearing blockages in fallopian tubes

  • Treating endometriosis or pelvic adhesions

Gynecological surgeons choose the most suitable surgical procedure depending on the patient’s condition, severity of the problem, and overall health.

Types of Fertility Enhancing Surgeries

There are two main types of fertility enhancing surgical procedures:

1. Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose and treat infertility-related problems.

In this procedure:

  • A small incision is made in the abdomen.

  • A thin instrument with a camera and light (laparoscope) is inserted to view the reproductive organs.

Laparoscopy helps in identifying and treating conditions such as:

  • Endometriosis

  • Pelvic adhesions

  • Ovarian cysts

  • Blocked fallopian tubes

It allows doctors to diagnose and treat certain infertility causes in the same procedure.

2. Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to examine the inside of the uterus.

In this procedure:

  • A thin instrument with a light and camera (hysteroscope) is inserted through the cervix into the uterus.

  • The doctor can observe the uterine cavity and lining directly.

Hysteroscopy helps diagnose and treat conditions such as:

  • Uterine fibroids

  • Polyps

  • Scar tissue (adhesions)

  • Abnormalities of the uterine cavity

Fertility enhancing surgeries play an important role in the management of infertility, especially when structural or anatomical problems prevent natural conception. These procedures may improve fertility and sometimes allow pregnancy without the need for advanced assisted reproductive techniques.
